question it

Join a question-based game that lasts all year long! participants will be prompted with one question each month and have the entire month to respond to the question however they want.

Frequently Asked Questions

Wait… How does this work?

Participants will be asked 12 questions (one question a month for each month of the year). On the first of every month, you will receive an email (and see a corresponding post on our social media accounts) with a thoughtful question to answer. The question is something you can keep in mind throughout that month to reflect on, determine the answer, and decide how you would like to answer it. You can either post your response on social media and tag us, or email your response to us for us to post, by the end of the month.

So… How do I answer the question?

Anyway that feels right to you! We encourage letting yourself be creative and express your answers in a unique way, but sometimes a “straightforward” response may feel appropriate for specific questions. All your answers can be in a consistent format, or you can adapt your responses based on the question. Some people may enjoy creating a structure of answering the question in the same creative format every time (i.e. I will create a dance as a response to every song). Others may feel a wish to answer a certain question with an original poem, and then another month’s response is a recording of themself singing a response. The possibilities are open! For example, questions could be answered with a video, a song share, a photograph, or a piece of writing.

Can you give me an example?

We’d be happy to! For example, say it is June 1st, 2024. Since it is the start of a new month, you will receive a notification or email (depending on preference) on that day that reads “Time to Question It! You have until June 30th to respond to the following question: If you were an animal, what animal would you be and why?” Five participants may respond as follows:

  • In June, maybe Lindsay identifies with the personality of a sloth. She reflects on how to respond. She remembers that she went on a trip to the zoo a few years ago and took a video of a sloth. Lindsay then combines the video of the sloth with a sound recording of herself explaining how she relates to a sloth and then shares that as a reel on her Instagram account.

  • June was a very busy month for Dina. So Dina chose to answer the question by writing the word “cheetah” on a piece of paper and adding it to a pile of scraps of paper that she took notes on throughout the month. She then took a photo of the pile and posted a picture of it to her Facebook.

  • Ray doesn’t like speaking or writing. However, he can play several instruments and enjoys expressing himself through music. Ray records himself playing multiple parts of “Little Lion Man” and shares that as his response.

  • Marie is a dancer and has always enjoyed the grace and power of horses. She records herself engaging in a dance improvisation to the song “Wild Horses” and shares that video to her Instagram feed.

  • Elizabeth had made a New Year’s resolution to journal more. She is frustrated when she realizes that she didn’t journal at all for the last 2 months! So, she wants to prioritize writing more in June. Elizabeth journals a response to this question and realizes she finds a kinship with foxes, but doesn’t want to share all of these specifics publicly. She then researches poetry that features foxes in them, and shares one of those poems by emailing it to START.
